We’re rolling out smart technology to improve loan equipment tracking.

EnableNSW, part of HealthShare NSW, recently rolled out a new ICT system across Equipment Loan Pools (ELPs) in the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network to make it easier for clinicians to find the right mobility and self-care equipment when patients are medically ready to leave hospital.

The new system, known as Get My Assistive Technology or GMAT, uses barcodes and a scanner to track loan equipment throughout the Network.

“The provision of loan equipment to NSW Health patients ensures safe discharge, enables patients to recover at home and can prevent falls, pressure injuries and injuries to carers that result in avoidable hospital admissions,” said Jackie Hiller, Associate Director of EnableNSW.

“Through GMAT, we are making it easier for clinicians to discharge their patients from hospital when they are medically ready by having available stock of good quality equipment available.”

GMAT provides Sydney Children’s Hospital Network with:

  • paperless patient and equipment management records
  • the ability to link all ELPs across an LHD to improve visibility and share resources
  • improved inventory management and access to data to inform future procurement activities.
  • an uplift in equipment quality assurance through cleaning and maintenance records.

The system is available to ELP teams and clinicians will have access to a web-based application for use on mobile devices that allows them to reserve items remotely, scan items and allocate them to their patients.

GMAT has already been implemented in 7 local health districts and will be rolled out across the state by the end of 2027.
